Arctic Adventure

From Longyearbyen to Reykjavik in 14 days

Dramatic coastlines, glimmering fjords, wild creatures that take your breath away – the three Arctic islands of this trip are filled with sights that invigorate all the senses. The Arctic is a place of extremes, where stories of Viking conquests and ancient myths from northern cultures add a layer of enchantment and mystery to the stark, ice-covered land. Traverse from the glaciers of Spitsbergen to the rocky eastern coast of Greenland and the sheer wintery beauty of Iceland. Hike through wildflower-strewn landscapes, cruise crystal clear waters by zodiac or take a kayak out on an expedition to remote coves. There are plenty of chances along the way to spot bearded seals, walruses, whales and, of course, magnificent polar bears. Once you breathe in Arctic air and glimpse the pristine land at the top of the world, nothing feels quite the same.

Fourteen Days

See List View
  • Day 1

    Embarkation in Longyearbyen

Climb aboard at Longyearbyen, the largest settlement on Spitsbergen. Get your first taste of the Arctic as you witness spectacular views of snow-topped mountains and clear, icy waters.

  • Days 2-5

    Spitsbergen

A trove of natural beauty awaits in Spitsbergen and its outlying islands. The mammoth Monaco Glacier is a surreal sight to behold, and hiking among the colourful wildflowers of the 14th of July Glacier provides an other-worldly experience. With plenty of chances for hiking, snowshoeing and zodiac cruising, as well as ample opportunities for wildlife spotting and landscape gawking, exploring Spitsbergen can be as active or as slow-paced as you see fit. At Smeerenburg, examine old blubber ovens and other remnants of whaling expeditions, including a historic memorial. Head out to the rocky beaches of Torellneset and Phippsoya to see lumbering walruses laze about on the shores. Keep an eye out for Svalbard reindeer grazing along the coastlines and try to spot polar bears in action.

  • Days 6-12

    Greenland Sea/Eastern Greenland

As the ship soars through the icy waters of the Greenland Sea, spend some time relaxing with your fellow travellers. Share a few drinks in the lounge, scout for seabirds from the deck and learn about the wildlife and history of Greenland – your next stop. Refuel energy levels on Greenland’s remote eastern coast. The Inuit settlement of Ittoqqortoormiit provides a unique glimpse of the past. The locals live off the land just as their ancestors did hundreds of years ago. Hike the tundra of Greenland National Park, where herds of musk oxen and Arctic fox roam free, or watch for whales in the distant sea. Then sail through the spectacular Scoresbysund, the world’s largest fjord system, and be mesmerised by the massive icebergs jutting high out of the water.

  • Days 13-14

    Denmark Strait/Akureyri/Reykjavik

The voyage continues towards Iceland, along the Denmark Strait. Relax and rest your feet while learning from the expedition team about all the incredible things you have seen. The adventure ends at the port of Akureyri, a bustling town at the head of a striking fjord. From here, fly to Reykjavik for an overnight stay in Iceland’s capital, a city famous for its energetic night-life, eclectic music scene and Viking history.
